Norfolk Line Ferries Dover - DunkerqueNorfolk Line - is a recent newcomer as far as passenger traffic is concerned, but long-established as a freight carrier. With 3 new ships on the crossing to Dunkerque the service is reliable and takes 2 hours.

The new ships are very well-appointed and comfortable, certainly up to the standards of the main competitiors on the short-sea Channel crossings. And whilst freight traffic is still an important elelment of their use, it no longer feels that you are using an "industrial" crossing. The Dunkerque terminal is some distance from the town in an industrial area, but access to the autoroute network is quick and painless. Travel time to Paris is only slightly longer than from Calais, and cheaper if you use the un-tolled A25 via Lille. (€12.60 v €18.20).

However, it is often great value for money - £52.00 return mid-winter, mid-week (2007) - clean and reliable.
